SOME LASER WEAPONS VERSION 1
SysOptics "Redline" Laser Pistol (TL9)
The Redline is a fairly typical laser pistol found in Fifth Wave nations as a precision smallarm. It has few benefits over chemical propellant weapons but does have the benefit of advanced styling and extensive appearances in various InVids and slinky video games. The laser itself is a relatively simple visible light emitter to keep costs down, but a "Professional" version uses a tunable laser. Beam power can be adjusted using the gun computer or a small dial placed on the right side of the housing.
The pistol itself connects to an external battery using a lightweight power cord - typically a "C" power pack is used (providing 90 shots). The laser can generate its own laser targeting sight for negligible power but it does not function as a laser designator.
The Redline is a 1 kJ beam output visible light laser with a 0.01 sf lens (1.4 inch diameter). It has a pistol frame. The "Professional" rainbow laser version is $470. Power use is 2 kW per shot.

SysOptics XLOS Rifle (TL9)
Largely considered a dismal failure, the XLOS (Experimental Laser Optic System) was supposed to have revolutionized man-portable directed energy weapons. Instead it was a costly, short-ranged, power hungry monster outclassed by weapons over 150 years old. A few models managed to make their way to the private market where they are highly prized by collectors.
The XLOS is a 3kJ rainbow laser with a 0.015 sf lens. It is powered by an integral "C" power pack and is built with a shoulder stock.

The Firelance is a heavy vehicle-mounted laser system usually seen on light-armored vehicles. It's damage is comparatively low but it has an outstanding range and can fire continuously for 15-seconds off a "E" power
pack.
Design is a 30kJ rainbow laser with a 2.4 sf lens (1.8 feet diameter). Power requirement is 480 kW for a full second of fire. It is a vehicle mounted weapon.

Orbital Design Systems Model 56 Light Laser
This is a light laser system originally marketed in 2057. It never caught on and was later supplanted by the now-standard 2.5-MJ output system. The design was quickly pirated and is used by some communities in the Deep
Beyond because of its simple design and low energy requirements.
The Naval/40 ("N Slash 4") is one of the heaviest laser systems currently used.
